I have had a secret dreams for years of running at least a half marathon but up until recently I didn't really think it was something I could achieve. Oh sure, I would tell people I thought it would be cool to one day run a half marathon but I never said it with conviction and I never made it sound like I would actually one day try to achieve such a goal.
My journey of health and fitness up to this point has been a long road but I am happy to admit I am finally starting to get it. I get why it is important and I get how to make it work for me! :) It is all about babysteps and trial and error. Something that works for one person might not work for me and realizing that is important because when I fail I have to know it's ok. I have to know that tomorrow is a new day and tomorrow I get to try a new way of working towards my goal!
Why did I pick a half marathon has my first goal?? It's not! It's just my first super public goal. I have been working toward running a 5k race for the last several years. I still haven't done it. I have had to change my goal. On Dec. 31st, my 29th birthday, I made the goal of running/walking 2km and I DID IT!!! Now on March 22nd I have the goal of running/walking a 3km race. What does running/walking mean?? For this moment it means, running 1 minute and walking 3. I have had some major calf and shin issues and this seems to keep the extreme pain at bay. I am also thinking of taking a yoga class to stretch out my body as every part of it seems to be tight. It will come in time, 'it' being my health, my body, my fitness, the running, everything. It's all about baby steps, remember??
I am so excited to be on this journey and making my health and fitness a priority - it honestly is an adventure and I am happy you are on this adventure with me. ICELAND HERE I COME!!!
A couple years ago my husband & I took a 'learn to run' course at the running room - so I totally remember the 3 and 1's etc...it's such a great method for starting out, because you don't over do it and eventually learn to love running! I too spent my life thinking I wasn't the 'running' type. Unfortunately in my situation, I was diagnosed with a lose hip joint and was told that running was the worst thing I could be doing for my body :-( So, I'll live my running dreams through you on your blog!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your accomplishments so far, and best of luck reaching your goals!!
